Coastal Transformation

Exploration of organic forms inspired by coastal landscapes, sea glass, and the transformative power of water

Coastal Transformation
#

This body of work explores the quiet metamorphosis that occurs where land meets sea. Inspired by sea glass—shards of human-made material softened and transformed by decades of wave action—these sculptures contemplate the relationship between nature’s patient processes and our own interventions in the landscape.

Conceptual Framework
#

The series investigates:

  • Material Memory: How objects carry the history of their transformation
  • Time and Erosion: The beauty inherent in slow, elemental change
  • Boundaries: The liminal space between solid and liquid, permanent and ephemeral
  • Patina as Narrative: Surface texture as a record of environmental dialogue

Technical Approach
#

Working primarily in bronze with custom patina finishes, each piece undergoes a multi-stage treatment process that mimics the action of saltwater and sand. The resulting surfaces evoke weathered coastlines—oxidized greens reminiscent of sea glass, textured browns suggesting barnacle-crusted pilings, and smooth areas polished by imagined tides.

Selected works from this series have been installed in public spaces along Thailand’s Gulf coast, where they continue their transformation through exposure to the actual coastal elements that inspired them.
